There are lots of elements to consider when choosing a pocket door! We have created a list to help out with a few factors that may need to be considered!
- Order a solid door. Almost all door types are suitable for use as pocket doors. Solid doors are a better choice as they are heavier and block noise better. They also will hold the pocket door hardware in a better way, therefore creating a more quality feel!
- Use pocket doors in 125mm walls rather than 100mm walls if possible. Pocket doors have to slide inside a wall, and therefore the wall studs can’t be positioned where the pocket door is. By building a thicker wall, it will give the pocket door wall more straight and stable.
- Always choose quality pocket door hardware. Quality door pulls, rollers and trolleys add so much to a pocket door. They allow it to slide softly and easily, even when carrying a heavy door.
- Make sure no fixings or fasteners protrude into the pocket space. This could result in a scratched door, as the fixing will catch on the door as it slides back into the pocket. To fix this, the door would have to be removed and potentially replaced if it was badly damaged.
- Ensure the fitter has some knowledge of pocket door installations. Also, ensure that the doors are level and plumb to decrease the chances of rough movement and malfunctions.
- Have fun with the design of your pocket door system. Pocket doors can be hidden or visible as desired, so are perfect for a vivid statement piece! A minimalistic look can be achieved with frameless pocket door systems like the Ermetika Absolute EvoKit system!
